Cross-Disciplinary Fellowships (CDF) are open to applicants with PhDs outside of science (e.g., chemistry, physics, engineering, math, or computer science).

HFSP Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024-2025 Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to apply for Human Frontier Science Program Postdoctoral Fellowships, the candidate must meet all the requirements as listed below:

  • Medium of Language: English
  • Inadmissible Countries: All world countries
  • The applicants must be willing to work in a country different from the country where they completed their previous Ph.D. work or their first postdoctoral research. In the case of institutions in no way classified as being national i.e. institutions that are international or extraterritorial like EMBL, ICPT, or ICGEB the country in which the laboratory is situated will be considered to be the host country.
  • A research doctorate (Ph.D.) (or an equivalent doctoral degree to the Ph.D. with a comparable background in fundamental research (e.g. a Research-based MD or medical Ph.D.) must be awarded before the beginning of the fellowship, but it does not have to be present at the time of application.
  • Candidates must be able to provide at the very least one lead author complete research paper that has been published in the press, or published within an internationally peer-reviewed journal. published on a preprint service.
  • Only articles that are written in English are considered. Patents and review articles are not considered.
  • Electronic copies of the lead author’s publications are required to be uploaded before making the application. They can’t be uploaded until after the applicant has submitted the application

Application Procedure For HFSP Postdoctoral Fellowships 2024-2025:

The applicants must submit a “Letter of Intent (LOI) which must include the following information:

  • The title of the proposal
  • Keywords of the proposed research plan
  • A brief overview of the research plan proposed (this summary could be used as an abstract of the complete application if it’s requested, please look below)
  • Personal information
  • CV
  • The title and field of the PhD
  • Information on the supervisor for the host and the host institution.
  • Disclosure of previous collaborations and publications that were published with the host’s supervisor (if there is any evidence that indicates that the host’s supervisor is aware of the application and approves it).
  • List of publications (preliminary with the possibility of updating)
  • A summary of work done previously (similar to that of the description in the LOI)
  • A brief description of the proposed research proposal (identical to the brief outline in the LOI)
  • A detailed research outline of the proposed project
  • Details on the reasons and why the proposed project will be significant from prior work
  • Details on the reason and how the proposed project fits into an unprecedented nature
  • Details on the reasons why the lab’s location is a good match
  • Information about how applicants will benefit from joining the lab of the host (e.g. unique infrastructure, mentoring, exposure to new techniques, etc.)
  • A list of the latest publications
  • Recommendation letters from two references
  • The recommendation of your supervisor who supervises the host that explains how this proposed plan of research is an exciting fresh direction to the lab and represents a significant shift from the previous work of the applicant (either while completing a Ph.D. or postdoctoral education) The supervisor of the host must also state how and the reason why their laboratory is well-suited to support the goals and objectives of HFSP to help young researchers with the best potential to pursue a cutting-edge research project that will determine their professional trajectory. The host supervisor must also provide a plan of mentorship for the prospective applicant.
